The chal­lenge

How does a rental fleet re­main flex­i­ble with ten­ant changes?

Smart Train Lease rents rail ve­hi­cles to var­i­ous EVUs, each us­ing its own con­trol sys­tems. So far, each change has meant:

  • com­plex tech­ni­cal ad­just­ments per op­er­a­tor

  • high costs for in­di­vid­ual in­te­gra­tion projects

  • long lead times that hin­der flex­i­ble rentals

  • tech­ni­cal hur­dles that make rental of­fers less at­trac­tive to cus­tomers


A so­lu­tion was sought that in­te­grates rental ve­hi­cles quick­ly, stan­dard­ized, and with­out re­cur­ring en­gi­neer­ing ef­fort into any RBL or ITCS sys­tem.

The so­lu­tion

In­stead of in­di­vid­ual projects, each ve­hi­cle is con­nect­ed to the plat­form in a stan­dard­ized way.

With the ETC Plat­form, Smart Train Lease re­ceives a plug-&-play so­lu­tion for its en­tire rental fleet.

  • Immediate Connection: When switch­ing to a new op­er­a­tor, the ve­hi­cle is con­nect­ed to its con­trol sys­tem with­in a few days in­stead of months-long ad­just­ments.

  • No Engineering Effort: Nei­ther Smart Train Lease nor the op­er­a­tors need to per­form pro­gram­ming or in­te­gra­tion work. All con­fig­u­ra­tions are car­ried out via a web in­ter­face.

  • Scalability: The cloud-based Ku­ber­netes en­vi­ron­ment flex­i­bly grows with the rental con­cept - for new ve­hi­cles, op­er­a­tors, or func­tions.

  • Security & Availability: ISO-27001 cer­ti­fied, reg­u­lar vul­ner­a­bil­i­ty checks, and a 24/7 helpdesk en­sure the high­est op­er­a­tional se­cu­ri­ty.
