Operations & Replacement Service - BeNEX
Digital management of flexible replacement services
BeNEX manages replacement services end-to-end and data-driven with the ETC Platform instead of relying on disconnected systems and manual coordination. Multimodal operational and real-time logic replaces complex rail replacement service processes and ensures the flexible, reliable operation of replacement services.

The challenge
How does replacement service work without chaos?
In practice, problems often arise due to traditional processes:
lack or delay of real-time information (current status comes "too late")
media disruptions between planning, scheduling, driver communication, and information systems
high coordination effort when planned and actual data do not consistently align
additional complexity because replacement services are multimodal (rail replacement + bus replacement/emergency services)
Therefore, BeNEX needed a multimodal core that consolidates replacement services and provides real-time information for customer information and scheduling without having to "reassemble" processes for each scenario.
The Solution
Multimodal Core for Replacement Services
With the ETC Platform, BeNEX centrally combines planned data and real-time data and operationally maps replacement services. This creates consistent forecasts and reliable information for control centers, scheduling, and passenger channels without manual coordination.
Central Data Management of expected and real-time data for replacement transport
Connection to existing ITCS/RBL systems (planned trips, feedback of real-time)
Provision of Real-Time Data (e.g., bus positions, forecasts for substitute services/replacement transport)
Driver Unit (Mobile App) for logging in/out and recording the travel status to generate real-time data for passengers and dispatching.
Passing on Forecasts to information media / passenger information systems
Control Center Close Monitoring & Visualization (dispatchers see vehicles in use)
Relevant Functions of the ETC Platform

For Railway Companies
Operation, Control, and Planning System
Centralized scheduling and real-time monitoring of the entire fleet.

Further Success Stories

Central platform for TramTrain networks - AVG Karlsruhe
The Karlsruhe model centrally managed
The Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) centrally manages the Karlsruhe model, with dispatching, forecasting, and passenger information in one system across rail, tram, and bus. A central platform unites the entire dual-system operation for 210 vehicles and ensures consistent operational management across all modes of transport.

Passenger Information & Interfaces – ODEG
Standardized passenger information with VDV 454 (3.1)
Together with ETC Solutions, ODEG implemented the production VDV interface for passenger information, enabling a stable exchange of passenger information and train composition data via the new VDV 3.1 standard.

Control Center & Bus Operations – Public transport of Biel
Citywide bus operations management
Dispatching, forecasting, and passenger information from one system for over 60 vehicles and more than 47,000 passengers daily.
