Passenger Information Module Subway - BVG Berlin
Passenger information in real time for millions of travelers
ETC Solutions has modernized and future-proofed BVG's passenger information.

Impact
From 30 minutes delay to seconds
Through the ETC Platform, information is processed in real-time and released uniformly across all channels: a Single Point of Truth for all BVG passenger information.

At a glance
BVG in numbers
9 subway lines
175 stations
1,250 vehicles
600 million+ passengers per year
16,500 employees
The challenge
How do you modernize passenger info in existing systems?
The hardware landscape of the Berlin Transport Company has grown over decades. Different systems and generations communicated only to a limited extent with each other. As a result, disruption reports took up to 30 minutes, although only two minutes are legally required. Simultaneously, displays, audio, apps, and social media ran independently of each other for a long time, with the risk of contradictory information.

The solution
Single Point of Truth for passenger info
ETC Solutions has reduced a highly complex system to a single, intuitive user interface: a central 'Single Point of Truth' for all channels.
One platform for all channels: digital displays, LED displays, audio systems, apps, social media
Real-time information from a single source
Flexible in everyday life and at major events: preparation of planned major events (e.g., Berlin Marathon) directly in the system
Seamless integration of existing hardware without manufacturer dependencies: including older systems with over 30 years in use
User interface as intuitive as a smartphone: approximately 200 excited employees trained
"What used to take 30 minutes now works in 3 seconds."

For metro, tram, and bus operators
Passenger information
Real-time information across all channels from a single source.
Other success stories

Central platform for TramTrain networks - AVG Karlsruhe
The Karlsruhe model centrally managed
The Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) centrally manages the Karlsruhe model, with dispatching, forecasting, and passenger information in one system across rail, tram, and bus. A central platform unites the entire dual-system operation for 210 vehicles and ensures consistent operational management across all modes of transport.

Operations & Replacement Service - BeNEX
Digital management of flexible replacement services
BeNEX manages replacement services end-to-end and data-driven with the ETC Platform instead of relying on disconnected systems and manual coordination. Multimodal operational and real-time logic replaces complex rail replacement service processes and ensures the flexible, reliable operation of replacement services.

Passenger Information & Interfaces – ODEG
Standardized passenger information with VDV 454 (3.1)
Together with ETC Solutions, ODEG implemented the production VDV interface for passenger information, enabling a stable exchange of passenger information and train composition data via the new VDV 3.1 standard.
