The Stuttgart Trans­port and Tar­iff As­so­ci­a­tion (VVS) uses a cen­tral qual­i­ty plat­form that re­places man­u­al eval­u­a­tions and cre­ates clear KPIs, au­to­mat­i­cal­ly for 140 trans­port com­pa­nies and 90 con­tracts in the Stuttgart area.

The chal­lenge

How to man­age 90 con­tracts with 140 bus com­pa­nies?

The VVS man­ages bus traf­fic in a high­ly com­plex met­ro­pol­i­tan area. The sheer num­ber of part­ners made uni­fied man­age­ment ex­treme­ly dif­fi­cult:

  • Man­u­al eval­u­a­tions were time-con­sum­ing and er­ror-prone.

  • Lack of trans­paren­cy in per­for­mance data hin­dered co­op­er­a­tion with trans­port com­pa­nies.

  • There was a lack of a cen­tral, re­li­able data­base to specif­i­cal­ly im­prove ser­vice qual­i­ty for pas­sen­gers and fair­ly eval­u­ate con­tracts.


The goal was to re­place man­u­al process­es with an au­to­mat­ed, cen­tral­ized sys­tem that pro­vides clar­i­ty for all stake­hold­ers.

The so­lu­tion

Au­to­mat­ed, trace­able qual­i­ty man­age­ment in bus trans­port

VVS has in­tro­duced a cen­tral plat­form for qual­i­ty man­age­ment in bus trans­port. The so­lu­tion au­to­mates the col­lec­tion and eval­u­a­tion of all rel­e­vant per­for­mance data and makes it ac­ces­si­ble to the 40 users at the con­tract­ing au­thor­i­ty.
